The Dettol Community Nurse of the Year Award is backed by a brand with strong medical heritage.
For over 70 years, Dettol has been synonymous with good hygiene and today it remains a household name and the number one antiseptic disinfectant brand in the country. A recent NOP survey revealed that 79% of practice nurses and health visitors use anti-bacterial products both at home and work, with Dettol cited as the number one choice for home use.
Then
In 1929, Hull-based manufacturer, Albert Reckitt, of Reckitt & Sons Ltd., began research into developing an antiseptic disinfectant along with Bacteriologist, Dr. W.C. Reynolds. Together they developed Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant Liquid.
The product was initially put on a two-year clinical trial at Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital in London, heralding the start of a long association with the medical profession. When a findings report emerged in 1933, it highlighted that the new Antiseptic Disinfectant Liquid cut deaths from Childbirth Fever by 50%. From that point onwards, the value of Dettol to the medical profession was firmly established and was soon welcomed into homes nationwide.
Now
Today, the brand's dedication to the medical profession remains as strong as ever, especially with the launch of the Dettol Community Nurse of the Year Award.
In terms of product development, Dettol, now manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser, has continuously evolved to meet modern day demands, and now incorporates a range of innovative antiseptic, disinfectant, and cleaning products ranging from Antiseptic Disinfectant Liquid through to Dettol Anti-Bacterial Surface Wipes and the newly launched Dettol Anti-Bacterial Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Dettol Anti-Bacterial Multi-Action.
Selling over 40 million products in the UK alone each year, Dettol continues to be the nation's favourite disinfectant.
